Boston Lyric Opera (BLO) is New England’s favorite opera company. Founded in 1976, BLO is recognized for its artistically excellent productions of a diverse repertoire that entertain and inspire audiences and feature emerging operatic talent. Its mainstage productions at the Citi Performing Arts CenterSM Shubert Theatre in Boston, and production of a fully staged, one-hour English version of a popular opera for school children and families throughout New England reach some 50,000 people a year. Boston Lyric Opera’s programs are funded, in part, by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

- BLO recently launched its 32nd Season with the critically acclaimed Les contes d’Hoffmann November 7-18, 2008.
- More than 25,000 people attend BLO mainstage productions each year, along with an additional 27,000 who participate in education and community programs.
- 3,000 people annually attend free pre-opera lectures, offered before all performances.
- Reaching over 140,000 through a summer-long program of educational community previews that culminated in a weekend of free fully-staged outdoor performances in September, 2002, BLO’s Carmen on the Common initiative created a national model for community outreach programs.
- BLO’s productions are reviewed by international publications including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Opera News, The Financial Times (UK), and Opera Now (UK).
- BLO launched its BRAVO! group for young professionals in November 2007 with a special Bravo Bohème performance sponsored by American Express.
